
Senate Approves Vitter’s Legislation on Drug Imports

he U.S. Senate has approved an amendment by U.S. Sen. David Vitter that would allow people to get drugs from Canada over the Internet at a lower price.
The Senate vote on Thursday night was 55-36 and could be a setback for the powerful drug lobby that contends the practice, known as “re-importation,” is unsafe and could result in fraudulent transactions.
“This is a huge win for Americans concerned about the lowering of the cost of common, expensive prescription drugs and a major defeat for the big drug companies and their powerful lobbying interests,” Vitter said in a statement on Friday.
