My Letter To Senator Landrieu

My Letter To Senator Landrieu

Posted in Advocacy Action, Press Releases Posted by Senator Conrad Appel on Aug 06, 2009

Our state has begun a new way of doing business and our future has begun to look much brighter than it has in decades — however, I cannot say the same for Washington.

Our national government has enacted a massive spending agenda that has failed to stimulate anything other than our national debt and yet even now they are considering two additional proposals that will further damage Louisiana’s economy.  President Obama’s plan for healthcare was hastily crafted, counterproductive and will cripple our small businesses.   Furthermore, President Obama’s Cap and Trade scheme will seriously undermine our economic growth by eliminating thousands of Louisiana jobs.

As a Louisiana State Senator and small businessperson, I recently sent a letter to Senator Mary Landrieu requesting she turn back the Washington generated wave of regulation, taxation, and government glut that threatens to drown our economic life.  Please Read The Full Letter At The Bottom Of This Page

There is nothing more important Senator Landrieu can do for the future of our state than to stop these ill-advised bills.  Please take a moment to read the full letter and add your name to the list of concerned citizens encouraging Louisiana’s U.S. Representatives and Senators to reject President Obama’s plans for both government-run healthcare and Cap and Trade.

Sincerely,

Conrad Appel, III
Senator
District 9

Dear Senator Landrieu,

Louisiana, and in particular the New Orleans region, has been blessed with incredible assets that should insure that we are one of the most prosperous regions of our Country. For many reasons we have experienced the opposite, years of economic and social decline resulting in wealth stagnation and population out-migration unmatched by other Southern states. In just the last few years our state has undertaken a new way of doing business and is concentrating on capitalizing upon its assets instead of just ignoring economic realities. The future has begun to look much brighter than it has in decades.

Unfortunately our National Government has now proposed taxes and programs that will derail the very progress that we in Louisiana are making. The majority of our state’s economy is based upon small and homegrown business. The cumulative effect of the TARP program, the “stimulus” programs, the proposed healthcare reform, and the proposed Cap and Trade program will create so much regulatory, tax, and debt burden that it will snuff out the nascent rebirth of Louisiana’s fragile economy.

Senator Landrieu, I am reaching out to you not only in my position as a state Senator but also as a Louisiana small businessperson. In my Senate district I represent more than 120,000 citizens of our state, amongst them hundreds of small business people just like myself. The very survival of our family owned businesses are completely dependent upon those businesses being able to operate within an economic system that is to the greatest extent possible free of government mandates, interference, and overly burdensome taxes. The livelihoods of our mutual constituents, as well as their ability to hire people and offer decent wages, are at stake. The proposals and programs that are pouring forth from our government in Washington are devastating to Louisiana businesses and to the thousands of citizens dependent upon them.

Our people understand the need for healthcare reform. However, the healthcare reform that is currently working its way through Congress has been hastily crafted and will have negative repercussions that will be contrary to the needs of our citizens. There is an opportunity to craft a healthcare system that will provide for the weakest amongst us without destroying our small business based economy. Unfortunately the proposed reforms will lead only to disaster as they ignore economic consequences.

Another proposal that portends equally detrimental consequences for our state is the House passed Cap and Trade Bill. Based upon your statements I know that you appreciate the danger to our state that the passage of this miss-guided legislation would bring about. As an energy-producing region we must be wary of the economic devastation that this proposal would wreak upon the Louisiana economy.

In the strongest terms I am pleading with you to assist the hard working people of Louisiana in turning back some of the Washington generated wave of regulation and taxation that threatens to swamp our economic life. Please help us defeat both the healthcare reform initiative as it is drafted and the Cap and Trade Bill. As our Senator there is nothing more important that you can do for the future of our state beyond helping us stop these misguided bills. I know that you will do the right thing.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding my position on these issues,

Yours Very Truly,

Conrad Appel, III
Senator
District 9

  1. Rodney Bender says:

Very well written. Please keep up the effort.

  2. Tim guidry says:

I strongly agree with senator’s position.

  3. Robert L. Cangelosi, Jr. says:

With the economy in its present state, I’m thankful that I’m still gainfully employed. But I work for a relatively small business, and am concerned that the recent activities in our Congress will “snowball”, ultimately leaving me and many others out of work.

  4. John H, Knauer, III says:

    Senator Appel,

Thank you so much for writing this letter to Senator Landrieu!! I work for a business owned by a family with whom I’ve been friends for 30+ years. Recently, the owner told me that he would have to shut down his business altogether if the Obamacare bill was passed. I know you’ve heard this from countless other business owners throughout the State, and I stand in support of your efforts to convince our Senators and Representatives to oppose these destructive bills.

Thank you again so very much!

    John H. Knauer, III
    Metairie, LA.

  5. Suzy Smith says:

Thank you Senator Appel for working not only for New Orleans and the state of Louisiana but also in the best interests of our country.

  6. Margie Seemann says:

Senator Appel, I am 100% in agreement with the things you said in your letter to Mary Landrieu. Great letter!

  7. Randy Davis says:

    Senator,

Thanks for providing the opportunity for me to participate in this plea for help. Senator Landrieu and I have disagreed on many issues over the years, primarily when she first became a Senator and she felt it necessary to kiss the liberal ring in order to gain some stroke in Washington. However, now that the Senator is established there is no reason for her to do anything concerning these matters than to work as hard as she can to derail the legislation refered too.

Even though I am a Republican I have voted for Senator Landrieu becasue I thought she gave Louisiana a bettter shot at getting things done in Washington. I have always overlooked her votes against things that I supported and for things that I was against because they were not as important as her building power that someday the State of Louisiana might need. Well, now we need her and she better deliver. Period. No excuses.

  8. Dawn Ezell says:

I agree with everything you have stated in your letter 100%. I think our senators should listen to the people they represent instead of voting how their party expects them to. The people have had enough, and these proposed taxes, especially cap and trade, will bankrupt most of us that work in the oilfield. Also, I think if we are forced to accept this government run healthcare program, all of the senators, congressman, and also the president and his family should have the same healthcare we will have to take.

  9. john luke says:

In 7 months I feel as though this nation has been on a fast sled to socialism. I hope we reverse the damage that has been done for ours children’s and their children’s sakes.

    John Luke

  10. GOOD JOB SEN. APPEL. AS A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER I FEEL YOU HAVE SPOKEN UP FOR ME QUITE WELL. I THINK SEN. LANDRIEU WILL GET THE MESSAGE.AGAIN THANKS

  11. Gerald Minor says:

I am a 68 yr. old citizen still working a full time job and a part time job, it has concerned me the way that the Federal Gov. has been spending our tax money in a very reckless manner. It seems that they don’t know that when you don’t have it you don’t spend it. They need to be working on cutting things back and not spending our money. As far as a Gov. run insurance program I know that there is no one on the hill that would give up the coverage they have for this mess they are tring to ram down our throats. Mary I ask you as one of your supporters to say no hell no Louisiana does not want to be a part of this type of goverment. I thank you in advance Respectfully, Gerald Minor Chief Of Police Baldwin Police Dept.

  12. Charles Booth says:

The only issue I have with your letter is that Senator Katrina Mary has, by record, rarely done what is right by the people of Louisiana. Furthermore, she has only done that which has increased the momentu
of the democratic party and consequently fattened her wallet and secured her spot as a representative of the great state of Louisiana. The majority of our population does not pay attention to anything but their bank accounts. By doing so, whoever puts the most into their accounts wins. They do not look for the long term effects of government policies. Katrina Mary knows ths and preys upon the unnformed peoe of our state; those individuals who still trust the idea that our current government is of the peoe, by the people, and for the people. This paramount description of the government has not existed since the days of Reagan. It saddens my heart to know that I cannot trust my government to do what is right. The majority will speak. And they will say ” to hell with the people.” the current government will, no doubt, put asunder all that our forefathers fought, bled, and died to establish.

  13. Dallas and Sarah Johnson says:

Senator Conrad Appel, III, has more than adequately expressed our feelings. The healthcare reform initiative, as drafted, is deplorable, as is the Cap and Trade Bill. Please do not support passage of these
bills. We have confidence in your desire to do the RIGHT thing, and we are counting on you to vote against these bills.

    Thank you!
    Dallas and Sarah Johnson

  14. Fay West says:

    Dear Senator Appel,
One thing you left out of your letter that I think all those in the federal government need to be reminded of is that they have ignored our constitution in every way possible. Our federal government is supposed to be limited in power and they have no right to pass laws like this! I thank you for your efforts and pray that Senator Landrieu heeds your advice.

  15. janet attales says:

i second the thoughts and pleas of the senator. please do everyting possible to stop these two peices of legislation that spell disaster’ not only for louisiana’ ut for our country

  16. Ogden Cutrer says:

My wife and I have been retired for over 2 years. We live on a small budget and have an excellent Healthcare plan that I got from my Employer when I retired.
    We’re happy, busy and healthy.
To Mr. Obama I would say, don’t mess with our Family!
Thanks for this opportunity to speak out.
Ogden and Pat Cutrer, Galvez, La.

  17. We are on the road to socialism.God help our children.I agree with every thing you said in your letter, hope she heard what you said. Millard and Judy Simoneaux

  18. Margaret C. Koehler says:

I agree with the statements made by Senator Appel. Our state, especially the New Orleans area, is on its way to recovery from 3 devestating hurricanes ( Katrina, Rita and Gustav). Our economy here is better than many states in the nation. Please don’t vote for programs that take away our freedom to operate businesses, our oil industry and trade along the Mississipi river.

Also, please don’t vote for mandated government health programs or taxes that will fund these programs. If anything, the government should operate clinics for those who work, but don’t have insurance provided by their employer. Free care for immunizations and preventive health exams or proceedures and bill patients on a sliding scale for medical treatment and prescriptions. Or these working people may instead be issued a yearly voucher by the government to pay for their medical care.
I would be willing to vote for taxes to fund either of these programs.

  19. Charlotte Ruiz says:

This is one of the best letters that I have seen about what is going on in Washington. If only they heed the warnings. Good job Conrad.

  20. Carl Gaubert says:

Thanks for expressing what the majority of the citizens of Louisiana feel about the “CHANGE” to our present healthcare and the and the lack of forethought applied to the bailout of banks and the auto industry, Please tell President Obama to “KEEP THE CHANGE”.
We do not need more BIG government intervention from DC we need more states rights.

    Carl & Doris Gaubert

    PS WE VOTE

  21. Senator Landrieu,

I fully support the position outlined in Senator Appel’s letter. I also urge you to oppose any infringement on second amendment rights.

  22. Monica LeBlanc says:

I agree with Senator Appel. Please vote against the politics and agendas that are destroying our country.

  23. Bobby Hickman says:

Great Job!! I live in Leesville (not leeville) ha We all need to come together and fight this socialism and marxism. This Great Country can and will survive, but the next three and half years we will suffer. I am proud to be a civil servant, but I also am a small business owner and we are gonna take a beating if we don’t speak up and get our friends and family also. God Bless The USA!!

  24. Kim Montgomery says:

Thank You for writing this letter. It is how the people feel and you are right on target.. I pray they will listen. Having two special need twin daughters we can not take any more hits than we already have. We have WORKED hard to provide for our childrens needs and for the govenment to come in and take away OUR hard work is a disgrace. Sincerly Kim Montgomery

  25. gerry marks says:

Don’t know how we can stop this roaring train of disaster, but sure hope we do./////

  26. Jean C. felts says:

Good job Conrad – Senator Landrieu, please help the small business people of Louisiana to survive.

No more bailouts for the so-called ‘Too Big to Fail’ companies.

  27. martha ellis says:

not only support Senator Appel’s letter, but I wish to add that silence lends strength to socialism. As we should all know, it is easier to fight enemy than apathy. I do not want to see capitalism from a rear-view mirror. I want to speak, write, and work to keep democracy in the forefront. I would like to know when and where the town hall meetings are in Louisiana and especially those where Senator Landrieu will be speaking.

  28. Kirk Price says:

Please keep the pressure on. We cannot leave this burden for our children and grandchildren to clean up.

  29. Marvin Weeks says:

Thanks Senator Appel for standing up for the people of this great country. Washington is taking this country down the road to socialism and total distruction. Thanks Senator for taking a stand against this action. May America Bless God again.

  30. Lloyd Harold says:

    Senator Appel:
I’ve read through many of the comments from your readers regarding your letter to Sen. Landrieu. What I didn’t see was a comment that asked if you had gotten a reply. And if you did, what did she say? Wouldn’t you publish Sen. Landrieu’s reply if you received one?

I appreciate you taking the time to send her a letter, I just wish that all of the people that responded to your effort would also make the effort themselves to write Sen. Landrieu. Maybe they’ll speak out at the next election inside the voting booth. I know I will.

  31. Roger Carlyle says:

I stood up and cheered when I read your letter. I whole heartedly agree that something must be done to stop the bleeding in Washington. I will vote against anyone that votes for the cap and trade bill. I know the health system needs an overhaul, but not in it’s present form. Let’s slow things down and get input from the voters before enacting bills just because you can.

  32. ROBERT & MARY ANN GAGNARD says:

THANK YOU SENATOR APPEL FOR WRITING TO SENATOR LANDRIEU REGARDING CAP AND TRADE AND ESPECIALLY THE HEALTHCARE NIGHTMARE. IT SEEMS THAT WASHINGTON INCREASINGLY WANTS TO MAKE US DEPENDENT ON GOVERNMENT FOR OUR SURVIVAL; AND, UNFORTUNATELY, MANY OF OUR CITIZENS CONSTANTLY ASK WASHINGTON TO DO SOMETHING FOR US-WHETHER WE CAN DO IT FOR OURSELVES OR NOT. IT WE CONTINUE DOWN THIS PATH, WE WILL, AS A PEOPLE, BECOME COMPLETE SUBJECTS TO OUR KINGS AND QUEENS IN WASHINGTON. OUR SELF-ESTEEM WILL TRICK US INTO BELIEVING WE ARE STILL FREE, AND FINALLY WE WILL FOLLOW THE FOOTSTEPS OF PEOPLE WHO PRODUCED SUCH ENTITIES AS HITLER, CASTRO, AND OTHERS. WE MUST LEARN TO STOP ASKING WASHINGTON FOR EVERYTHING AND DO FOR OURSELVES WHEREVER WE CAN. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE LETTER; HOPE SENATOR LANDRIEU CAN COME TO HER SENSES AND BRING POWER BACK TO THE PEOPLE AND AWAY FROM WASHINGTON.

  33. Kurt Stevens says:

Senator Appel, we do not have a national government, it is a Federal government, as in a federation of States. Unfortunately, we do have a defacto national government, in that the Fed takes money from the citizens and forces the States to administer its programs through apportionment and threats. It is encouraging that several States have asserted their Sovereignty – drew a line in the sand- against the un-Constitutional power grab by the Federal government. There is no Constitutional basis for the Fed to take money from the Citizens to be distributed to others, especially to non-citizen residents.

Louisiana attorney Tom Cryer successfully argued before a Federal Court that the free exchange of labor for compensation is a right. His argument has been upheld as a right by the Supreme Court, but that doesn’t necessarily make the compensation income. Most income tax is illegally collected by the Fed using extortionist tactics.

To quote Mr. Cryer, “The Founding Fathers intentionally restricted the taxing powers of the new federal government as a measure of restraint on its size. By exceeding that limited taxing authority the federal government has been able to obtain resources beyond its intended reach, and that money has enabled the federal government to exceed its authority.” http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=56855

Congress does not have the will to restrict itself or to stand up to the Executive or Judiciary. The people do not have the means, except through elections, which are usually a choice between the lesser evils or a personality contest.

It is left to the States if a peaceable resolution of this Federal mess can occur. Can the States again unite against an oppressive government?

    Kurt Stevens

  34. Sheri Brewer says:

It’s obvious that the right candidate won the election for Senate District 9. Conrad, we are proud of the progress that you are making to fight for conservative values in our state!

  35. Rebecca Favre Lipe says:

Thank you for sending your letter to Senator Landrieu concerning the Obamacare.
I attended the Reserve, LA Health Care Town Hall Meeting last month and the four federal cabinet secretaries and Senator Landrieu were not at all prepared for the response they recieved from the standing room/spilling out into the hall crowd. They were totally stunned by our responses to the current movement to crush the America our forefathers created. (see YouTube videos) They (Washington) are so far removed from the citizens that any disagreement we voice to them is just unacceptable. Now they are referring to us as “unruly mobs” and “being paid to go to these meetings by lobbyists”. I will be attending the Tea Party march on Sept 12th in DC (at my own expense) and urge everyone to attend any public meeting you can because it is making a difference that not only our voices are being heard but they are seeing us in person.
    Thank you,
    Rebecca Favre Lipe

  36. "Mimi" Fontenot says:

Senator Landrieu: The needy already have the best healthcare in the world. They get all the medicines they need and all their babies paid for at birth as well as monthly money to support those babies without having to work. We on the other hand don’t. We work hard to pay for our babies and support them. If we need money for insurance and meds, we do without other things and pay our way.
It is time for some to quit spending the money we already hand out to them and take care of their own needs. It is called priority.
They need to get off their duffs. In America, you can make a good living and have good health care if you so desire and are willing to work for it. This is not about healthcare. That is the governments excuse to rule our lives. Please act responsibily and do what is right for all the American people. Vote no to this ridiculous Health Care Plan. It will cost many more jobs. As a small business owner, I will have to go back to work and lay someone else off to make ends meet. Please don’t bankrupt America.

As for Cap and Trade, we can make a lot of progress just by not cementing everything and by planting trees instead of bull dozing them down.

  37. Thanks for expressing my feeling on this subject. What steps can we citizens take other than contacting our senators and representatives?

  38. Thanks for expressing my opinions on this matter. Is there anything else we citizens can do other than contacting our representatives and senators?

  39. MICHAEL GALLAGHER says:

    DEAR HONORABLE SENATOR LANDRIEU,

PLEASE VOTE AGAINST NATIONAL HEALTHCARE AS WELL AS CAP AND TRADE. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS TO BIG, THERE IS TOO MUCH REGULATION AND TAXES ARE TOO HIGH. OBAMA’S PLANS WILL MOVE THIS COUNTRY TOWARDS TOTAL SOCIALISM. NATIONAL HEALTHCARE WILL DESTROY AMERICA. YOU MUST HELP STOP THIS MADNESS. THIS COUNTRY CAN NOT GROW UNTIL GOVERNMENT GETS OUT OF OUR LIVES. CONGRESS MUST LISTEN TO IT’S CITIZENS.

    SINCERELY,

    MICHAEL GALLAGHER

  40. ida s brown says:

Senator Appel has spoken most eloquently for me. I only hope Senator Landreau remembers she was elected to represent Louisiana and not the power-hungry political machine with which this administration has buldozed our nation against the will of the majority. The president and our senator would do well to remember that “change and improvement are not the same thing”.

    Thank you.

  41. Margaret Carimi says:

Thank you Senator Appeal for standing up with us. This is not about Republican, Democrat, or Independent anymore, it is about being a citizen of the United States of America!

There are a lot of decisions being made in Washington that “We The People” do not want. Senator Landrieu needs to listen to the people of this state. We do NOT want BIG government. I think they have forgotten that we elected them and can vote them out. They can call us names, make fun of us, do whatever they want and we will continue the fight right to the voting booth. This time, we will not forget if they chose to vote against us! Our grassroots efforts is growing everyday, “The Sleeping Giant” has woke up and we are not going to take it anymore. This is a defining moment in the history of the United States of America.

  42. Margaret Carimi says:

    Senator Appel! Thank you.

  43. Billie Turnley says:

This letter goes straight to the heart of the matter. There is little time to waste if we are going to try to turn the tide of these two pieces of legislation. Thanks, Billie Turnley

  44. Conrad Ledig says:

Thanks Senator Appel, I hold the feelings on this subject. I have been writing my REPS. for years. I will continue to email and write my Reps. to let them know my strong feelings on spending our tax dollars. We have to stop this cap and trade and health care reform. I’m happy with my health care right now. I work for a living.

  45. [...] Senator Conrad Appel (District 9) sent this letter  to United States Senator Mary Landrieu.  Highlights are below: Louisiana, and in particular the [...]

  46. Donald J DeBlanc says:

Very well said… Keep up the good work. We as a people must not submit to the take over of our country.

  47. Please keep up the good work, it is deeply appreciated.
We do need to do all we can to help our country get turned around from where it is headed at this time.

  48. David Colley says:

    Senator Appel,
Very good letter, but I would be interested in seeing her reply. My wife has sent a similar letter to Mary landrieu and received a reply that gave us no indication that she was listening to what we were saying. We are beginning to think Washington is tone deaf to what the American public is saying. I am a registered democrat by the way, but I can’t support bills that aren’t read, nor given to the public for discussion. Does everyone in Washington think we work for them?

  49. Joanne Barrios says:

Thank you for fighting for OUR rights! The people appreciate you stepping in and taking such a strong action against this plan. We are with you 100%. God Bless America.

  50. John Koury says:

I agree with Senator Appel. Help us get back to the traditional values that has made our country the greatest nation in the history of the world.

  51. Donald D'Avy says:

Sen. Landrieu: I respectfully request that you consider Sen. Appel’s points, which not only express my own, but I believe that of most of your constituents. I am a small businessman and very concerned about the issues of health care, increased taxation as well as cap & trade. The wrong legislation will sound the death knell for many small and large businesses in Louisiana.

  52. Jerry Herndon says:

    Senator,

I fully support your position on all of these issues. My main concern is that Senator Landrieu does not share this position and I believe she will vote however Nancy Pelosi tells her. I am sure she is under tremendous pressure to support all of the President’s socialist policys. Now is the time for all Louisianans, regardless of party, sex, race, etc. to wake up and put the pressure on her to do whats right for the country – not just the state.

Thanks for all that you do,
    Jerry Herndon

  53. John & Karla Vinet says:

Hear your constituents, Senator Landrieu. You work FOR US; we don’t serve you. You aren’t popular enough to go against our wishes. I find it amazing we have people in Louisiana who are stupid enough to keep re-electing you. Supporting Obama is probably the best way to ensure that you are finally ousted from the Senate, but I’d rather not see our state suffer to reach that goal. Louisianians will not continue to be so forgiving for your liberal loyalties. Support the President at the risk of your own political career. And know that I wll always be there to remind voters of the programs and policies that you support.

  54. David P. Mayfield says:

May GOD bless you and your letter. I write the senators a lot about the way they are trying to do a lot of things in Wasington. We all need to be on our knees and praying for our country the United States of America. A country that God made a great And strong country, but Man has tryed to take God out and his hand off this country. When God takes his hand off this country things like 911 happen. Wake UP AMERICA!

  55. David P. Mayfield says:

May GOD bless this country and it’s God fearing citzens.

  56. Eric D. Torres says:

Cutting higher ed and health care is a “new way of doing business?” How do we account for the $1.3 TRILLION Bush took out of the federal coffers with his tax cuts for the wealthiest 2%?

  57. John Johnson says:

It appears that we cannot influence some members of congress. It is time to demand that term limits be instituted. Since the current administration has bankrupted the country, it will be necessary to suspend all benefits that these members of congress enjoy as we can no longer afford them.

For the first time, I have started making donations to policitcal groups that support my views. It is probably only through this method that we can help other conservatives be elected in other parts of the country.

  58. Carol Aldridge says:

how much more can this world take? we are destroying our land, our air, our water, ourselves. i thank God that my daughter has decided NOT to have children as they would be born into a world that will be at war over potable water before 2030. there is no hope for future generations unless people who see the world as a whole, not in pieces-parts, begin to act to save what we have and rebuild what we have destroyed. we are blinded to what our roles are on this earth. we need to ask God to remove the selfishness and greed in each of us so we can become true stewards of the land, sea, and air He has given us to supply our needs–not wants. we are individually responsible for conserving and healing what we have now, and our votes should go to those who have the same convictions. the special interest groups continue to rule the roost. when we will stop following these people like a sheep to slaughter?

  59. Mary Jane Robison says:

    Dear Senator Conrad Appel, III
I sincerely appreciate your communication to Senator Landrieu. You have written so well what most of us are feeling. Hopefully, with your help, we can get her to listen and vote according to what the people of Louisiana want. I wrote to her saying basically the same thing you did and got an affirmative answer from her. I, however, don’t trust her to vote as she says she will. I think she says what she thinks we want to hear and then do the opposite.
    Sincerely,
    Mary Jane Robison
    Monroe, Louisiana

  60. Gary Dykes says:

Embedded is my message sent to Senator Landrieu directly:

    “”"Dear Senator Landrieu,

I am outraged by the Democrat Congress, Senate and Administration suggesting that outrage over proposals to modify health care is “astroturf, thuggish, nazi and drummed up”.

Let me spell it clearly, these are my words:
“I do not trust President Obama to be honest … he has constantly played with his words to misrepresent himself. I do not trust Speaker Pelosi or Majority Leader Reid … they have shown that they will use urgency and pain in peoples lives to forward blatantly excessive and frivolous spending. Therefore, I do not trust them to construct anything helpful to the broad American public (emphasis on broad, not minority) on an issue as important as health care.

I have health insurance. I pay for my health insurance and I am satisfied with the coverage I have. Furthermore, until the elected politicians can admit to and eliminate the abuse of Medicaid/Medicare, you have no business trying to increase the rolls on entitlements … AND you have no business claiming to reform health care.”

I do not take kindly to an elected official from California calling my opposition to proposed reform astroturf or anything other than proper discourse over an important matter. It is of no relevance where I get my information … if the proposals were as good as portrayed by Democrats, it should stand on its own merits. We, the people, a majority conservative in our fiscal views, have recognized the willingness of Democrats to lie in submission to an agenda that is wholly wrong for America. Health-care reform has tipped the scales … thus the heavy-handed opposition. We, the people, do not care to hear rhetoric dressing up a bad piece of legislation … we already know Congress’ propensity to insert language/legislation into a bill which sneaks actions under the noses of the American public.

I look forward to a response from you with a schedule of your appearances in Louisiana. Hopefully you will be making personal appearances and not sending staff with “talking points” to do your dirty work. If I get to speak to you, I will be respectful but understand I will be forthright and demanding of some broad commitments.”"”

Thank all of you for joining me publicly decrying the efforts used by the Democrats to “control and subdue” the angered public.

    Respectfully,
    Gary Dykes – Lafayette

  61. Robert & Jessica Poole says:

We strongly agree with the Senator. Cap & Trade, especially in a climate where the most rapidly growing economies (China, India & Mexico) refuse to comply…will do nothing more than destroy many of our already ailing domestic industries. Healthcare reform in the current form is a disaster as well. Surely you don’t desire to leave a legacy of having oversaw the implementation of these two catastrophic pieces of legislation. Listen to your constituents. We are counting on you this time.

  62. E S Wright says:

It is time that Senator Landrieu and the Democratic Party begin to realize that they must reap what they sow” ……..it is the Law of Balance.
I am only 59 yrs., but an injury put me into a “medical needs” lifestyle. I currently receive satisfactory care at LSUHSC. With the “Better Healthcare of Obama”, I, and millions of others, will receive sub-standard care at the hands of fewer doctors.
The Town Hall meetings and Tea Parties responses are no more than a fully developing expression against the oppression and controlling actions of the government.
THEY CANNOT COMPLAIN BECAUSE THEY WERE THE ONES WHO WOKE UP THE SLEEPING GIANTS!!!

  63. Geralie and Billy Woodruff says:

Right on the money. So glad you took the opportunity to write this letter. We need more people to stand up for what is right.

  64. Delores Brewer says:

Senator: Thank you for standing up against those who seem intent on destroying our way of life. I have never been so troubled for the future of “our United States” as I am now. We are not only engaged in a war in other countries, but we are under attach right here at home. My heart breaks!

  65. Dear Senator Appel:
Thanks for saying all the things I have been thinking. I agree with all the points made in your letter. I would like to add the following: I am what I guess you would call a senior cirtizen I have reached the age of 70 and should be comforted by the fact that I shouldn’t have to be concerned about my health plan under Medicare. I stillwork every day. I have paid into the system and continue to pay for my social security and medicare benefits and now that is all threatened by politicians and policies that don’t favor the average American tax paying population who are the backbone of of this country. It appears the politicians are more interested in votes from illegal alliens and many others groups who don’t contribute squat. It appears we are on the road to disaster as a country. What a shame.

Please keep up the fight to neutralize this foolish plan. As the constitution says, “All men are created equal”, it doesn’t say that all men are to receive everything in equal porportion. Some rise to different heights because of individual efforts. Some chose to do nothing and milk the system for whatever they can. Now we are expected to accept this foolishness to satisfy some political unpopular plan propose by some irresponsible polititions.

If we are forced into this, than all of congress should be on the same medical plan as all the rest of the citizens. Why should they be considered special? I could go on and on………………………..

    Don Makofsky

  66. KERRY DAVIS says:

Please protect America in this time of reckless government spending.
    Thanks Kerry M. Davis

  67. Lisa Pacheco says:

I am sick to death of being taxed. I am sick of partisan politics and people like Byrd, Kennedy, Pelosi, Franken, Dodd, Frank and their ilk. We have a beautiful and potentially prosperous state. I have made a vow that anyone who supports this health care iniative will be campaigned against. The Washington types will never have to live with what they have foisted on the regular Joes of this world. Dr. Emmanuel’s comments are Hitlerian and he most of all since he is Jewish should be keenly aware of the vile commentary coming from his mouth. No one but God has the right to make those decisions and the blood of those who die at the hands of this possible legislation will not be shed in vain. Those who support this and push for this will have to answer to God for their actions. Mary Landrieu is a Catholic and to support this kind of legislation is totally against the teachings of the church. Her party is pro choice and fights for the rights of people like Dr. Tiller who performs abortions on viable fetuses that could be delivered and placed for adoption to those who cannot have children. Ms. Landrieu’s children are adopted. There is a plethora of hypocrasy in her platform as in the entire Democratic party. Will Chris Dodd get the same health care they wish to foist on us? He is at the end of his useful life. What about Ted Kennedy? He was at the end of his useful life the day he was born. I am very angry that our representatives and Senators are wasting precious taxpayer dollars and time on this kind of stuff. For their so called free medical care–the last thing it will be is free. NO MORE TAXES!

  68. Carolyn Lawson says:

I am a small business owner in LA. We provide health insurance to our employees and the cost is extremely high, however I do not feel that a Government Health Care is what this country needs. We would then be in the situation that Canadians are in today, waiting list to see & receive care. We are a Democracy and President Obama and his Team are striving to make us Socialistic. It is time for all Americans to voice their opinion. Also if the Members of Congress and the President think so highly of their proposed Health Plan and we are expected to particpate, then they must be participants also. If it’s good enough for the American People, it’s good enough for them.

  69. Avery Griffin says:

    Senator Landrieu,

Please do destory our health care system by passing these bills. As Barney Frank acknowledged, the proposed legislation will turn into a one payer system. It will run our health care. Please don’t pass cap and trade. It will ruin our economy and send business running for other countries.

  70. Kenneth Robley says:

    No Government Health Plan………………………………………Perdiod.

  71. James Wyche says:

Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Frank, Landrieu and other left-wing liberal destroyers of America are simply puppets controlled by a greater evil. We need to uncover who is pulling their strings and making their jaws flap this virulent legislation that can only speed the demise of this great nation. Mr. Obama has spent hundreds of thousands defending his right to NOT produce proof of his citizenship and everything he does puts another nail in the coffin of our great constitution. It is time to stop this spoendthrift rampage promoted by the democrat controlled congress and the elections of 2010 will be a great place to do so.

  72. Peggy Meyers says:

Senator Landrieu, The “In God We Trust” is such a power phrase. Our country was founded and built around this belief. We as citizens need to go back to this and truely stand by it. It seems that Washington has decided that they will take the place of God and run the country in another direction, which in my opnion will ruin this great nation. Please help us save this great nation and not vote for legislation that will further destroy our country. We do need health care reform but not the way the government wants to implement it. If our legislators would read how this coutry was originally founded they would not vote for all these huge money spending bills and the present proposal for national health care. The government is currently running the Medicare/Medicaid Program, which will probably go broke, what makes them think the can run a national health care program efficiently.

  73. Steve B says:

“Cutting higher ed and health care is a “new way of doing business?” How do we account for the $1.3 TRILLION Bush took out of the federal coffers with his tax cuts for the wealthiest 2%?”

Actually, federal revenues INCREASED under the Bush tax cuts. There has never been a time in American history where raising marginal income tax rates has produced an increase in revenues. Conversely, there has never been a time in American history where decreasing tax rates hasn’t produced an increase in tax receipts to the Treasury.

I realize facts hurt, but that old class warfare argument doesn’t work any longer.

  74. Rene G says:

It’s getting scary very quickly. Obama’s thugs – ACORN, unions – are now determined to intimidate citizens who voice their opinion. Just the beginning of an attempt by nationalist socialists to take over this country. Is this the start of regulating speech? If Obama wins a second term, will he change the Constitution to remove the law limiting the President to two terms?

  75. Barbara R. Campbell says:

I am in agreement with everything you have stated in your letter. I think our Senators and Representatives representing us in Washington should listen to the people they represent instead of voting how their party expects them to vote. The people have had enough, and these proposed taxes will bankrupt most of us that work hard to provide for our families. We search hard for good health care programs so if and when we need to use the health care for a long term illness it is there to help us through our tough times. We are willing to pay for this health care through our employers and/or through individual family policies. If we should have some serious illness to happen to us and the government has put a cap on what will and will not be covered under the Medicare health care program and our individual family health care programs/policies then they are deciding when and upon what condition we should live or die. Our government should not have the opportunity to limit our lives in this way. Our government should not have the opportunity to take from the hard working people that have given everything they have to support their families and pay their required taxes and then turn around and give our tax dollars for free medical care to people that are in or country illegally, do not belong here, and definitely do not qualify for health care paid by the taxpayers dollars just to “distribute the wealth”. I am not working to “distribute the wealth”, I am working to survive and take care of my family. I think if we are forced to accept this government run health care program, all of the Senators, Congressmen, Representatives or anyone else working for the government including the President and his family should have to accept the same health care they will have placed on us to accept.

Also, why should the people that belong to unions and/or work for unions be protected and/or exempt from this proposed health care plan? This is totally unconstitutional and unbelievable that we the people who through our tax dollars pay our government salaries and pay for their health care (unlike any health care program offered to the people they represent) to have them turn on us and think they can decide when we should live or die, should we come down with a terminal disease. They do not want to continue to find the funds to give back to the very people that have supported them and put them in office to begin with to fight for us.

Our Medicare health care program does need some help but not at the cost of determining who should live or die by putting a cap on coverages like terminal illnesses such as cancer, deminture, Ahlzheimers, mental conditions, etc. If this bill passes our government is letting us down. Medicare could save millions of dollars if it did not take our hard earned tax dollars paid by our citizens and spend it on health care for illegal people in our country that do not contribute one dollar for their care. The honest people that do pay their taxes should not be penalized for our government deciding to pay for health care for illegal people in our country and cutting the benefits for those that work hard for these benefits.

Senator Landrieu, we are reaching out to you to help us overcome this disastrous situation and vote no to the Health Care Plan Bill as well as the Cap and Trade Bill.

  76. Rene says:

Senator Landrieu – NO public health care that supports abortion and euthanasia. Contrary to Pelosia and Reid, we’re not Nazis because we stand up for our rights of free speech.

  77. David Webster says:

    Senator Landrieu,

I agree that our helath care needs revamping and that we need new and better way of stimulating the economy, but I do not believe what is happening in this country now is in the best interest of the country.
I respectfully request that you do not support running this bill through congress until all of it can be studied thoroughly, and that will be refined to meet the needs of the country as a whole. Best of luck to you and your staff.

  78. Betty & Wally Gunn says:

I agree completely. We(my husband and I) 30 years to have what we have and we do not want to share the wealth with any one other than who we decide. We also have our own health insurance which we are completely satisfied with. Maybe to save money they could cut some of government expenses. One such expense would be take Palosi plane away. Why should this be allowed. Cut some of the pet projects (particularly in Calif). What a waste of taxpayers money.

  79. Judith Cutrer says:

Thank you Senator Appel for your efforts to enlighten Senator Mary Landrieu about our concerns. I am sorry to say that this is probably falling on deaf ears. Senator Landrieu is marching to a different drummer and is following the Pied Piper, President Obama. Oh! What frightening times we are living in and I am sorry to say it is real and not a bad dream.

  80. Rives McCord says:

    Good Letter,
    Conrad.
Thanks for taking the time to send it to the senior senator. I have received responses from her office which certainly led me to believe that she would support the health care fiasco, HR3200. Fortunately, her office told me that Landrieu would not support the “cap and tax” as written. Every citizen of Louisiana needs to support the veiws you have expressed in this letter. Under no circumstances would I trust the Democratic led house to write any bill which protects the citizens of this great nation.
As I write this, the White House seeks to find out out who is opposed to the health care initiative by asking people to report names of people who are distributing “mis-information”.
The White House should be first on the list as distributing mis-information.
As our governor commented on Obama’s heatlh care statements” what he says sounds good. Unfortunately none of those things are in the heath care bill.
    Thanks
    Conrad.

  81. Kerry Foil says:

    Senator Landrieu,

Keep government out of our private health care, and vote against cap and trade.

  82. Kerry Foil says:

Thank you Senator Appel for all you efforts. God be with you.

    Senator L

  83. David Key says:

I agree, with you Appel. I believe it still needs more work on the health plan and the money spending.
I think we need to audit the ferderal gov’t. Get this lifer politicians out and some new blood in their.

  84. Jane says:

Thank you Senator Appel for your efforts. I have read all of the above comments and agree wholeheartedly that if “We the People” don’t stand up to our Congress and Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, Obama community organizers, aka as Acorn, Union Activists, Thugs, etc., our country will be ruined as they tax the hardworking people who are citizens or are in the country LEGALLY, to spread the wealth to the people who have never attempted to work and have lived off the government and to the ILLEGALS who work, but do not deserve to be supported by our government. You can go into any Walmart and there are plenty of people who, if asked for proper documentation, more than likely could not produce it. They are usually accompanied by babies, young children, or pregnant wives about to give birth to –”surprise”– an American Citizen”. Whatever happened to the legitimate I-9 Forms that I had to fill out as a small business owner and the people who were supposed to be checking the workplaces and companies to make sure the companies were in compliance. Just think of all the time that was wasted by the honest business owners who fulfilled this requirement SENT DOWN BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
Senator Landrieu: DO NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA CARE AND DO NOT VOTE FOR CAP AND TRADE. YOU WILL NOT ONLY DESTROY LOUISIANA, BUT AMERICA! AND….DO HOLD TOWN HALL MEETINGS IN PLACES THAT ARE LARGE ENOUGH FOR YOUR CONSTITUENTS TO GATHER AND MAKE SURE THAT THE TIMES AND PLACES ARE WELL PUBLICIZED.
It pains me to think of the many, many U. S. Military Patriots who have fought and died for our Freedom, to have it destroyed by OUR OWN GOVERNMENT. Think about it when you go to bed prior to going to sleep—Americans are vigilant when it comes to their freedom and their particular comfort level. WHERE WAS OBAMA REALLY BORN????? It appears to me OBAMA would turn up or turn down the themostat in the Oval Office at his whim. Yet, he wants us to live as they do in Kenya–unable to afford heating and cooling in the DEEEP South. AND you think the AMA represents all of the doctors in the U.S.??? The percentage of membership in the AMA is a paltry sum of the U. S. doctors. While in my un-named oncologist’s office, discussing the government determining his pay, he said—they pay me for a half/day’s work, I will only work a half day. AND AS FOR ACORN PERFORMING THE U. S. CENSUS, LOOK OUT!!!! WE HAVE TO SAVE OUR FREEDOM, OUR COUNTRY, AND OUR HEALTH CARE!!!!
I apologize if I covered more than the present topic, but I have had it and don’t want to take it anymore. NEVER FORGET WHAT HAPPENED IN GERMANY!!!!

  85. Madonna Mata says:

I do not want a government health plan. The gov’t already has medicare and medicaid and if you look how the gov’t runs those two programs God help us all if they control everyone’s health coverage!!!!

  86. Terry Cambre says:

It appears that the hard working tax paying citizens of the country like me do not want this health care program to pass. We all ready pay for a good portion of the democratic voter base now. I have been working down town New Orleans for 32 years. And have heard the statements made by this voter base with my own ears like, don`t worry I aint gonna mess up this pay check referring to baby number 3. I dont care much about a person that refers to a child as a pay check. How about this one from a 2nd class building engineer, they make good money why would he be reciving tax payers money. I went down to the welfare office and told them that I dont live at home with my wife and now they give more money for my lil baby girl number 2. This offends me knowing there are millions stealling from the government programs and are not heald accontable, and the government holds me accountable for the taxs I have to pay. I could go on for a long time with this but I will redirrect. I understand there are a lot of people with out health care and alot of them can afford it but choose to have better things in life like, beer, illegal drugs, parties, saints season tickets, rims for the car, motor cycles. Its not my problem that there prioritys are out of line. There are millions of people that can afford health care and just dont. Dont tread on me and my health care package. This goverment has robbed thousands of dollars from me to pay for the above theves in a program that is way out of hand and now you want to destroy this health care system for lesser number of people. Iam sure there is a better and cheeper way to get the results your looking for. How about accountability that should be the next Democratic platform…. I appolige if I have offended any one It was not my intent…

  87. Jeffrey K. Martin, Sr. says:

I am in agreement with you Sen. Appel. As aformer long-haul trucker, and small business owner; I have seen not just here in Louisiana, but all across this great country of ours , the benefits of our federal government providing the masses (business and personal) with so-called solutions for a shot at the american dream. As a child of parents that struggled through the Civil Rights Era, I realized that everything that was asked by the oppressed in society, Uncle Sam was more than willing to step in and provide. The oppressed did not realize what price they were going to have to pay for those benefits.

I’ve never heard , or read from any civil rights leader, anything professing taking from one segment of society, and giving to another. Those pioneers of our not so distant past, touted for ACCESS. Giving the masses opportunity to participate in the american dream. I’ve not in my 48 years on this planet met
anyone whose family has been uplifted from their lot in life by the government. Yet, I have seen a lot of the opposite. Many people being held back from prosperity,by enlisting in programs that offer only a meager existence, with rules that guarantee a hopeless, and non-prosperous future for all families involved.

I think that Malcolm, Martin-Luther, Ms. Parks, D. Scott, M. Evers, H. Tubmann, W.E.B. Dubois, F. Douglas, Sojourner Truth, and many other historical icons of the civil (peoples) rights movement; are at this this time in history, rolling in their graves when they see how the masses are willing to give away their self worth, by entrusting their futures to an entity that has over many years, shown their inefficiency, arrogance, eliteism, and GREED. Government ; to a degree has a lack of respect for the people they are supposed to represent.

No! I don’t want this government to put mychildren, and grandchildren in the massive debt they are proposing. I don’t need them to take care of me. i’m not taking care of anyone else. President Wm Clinton stated at his last State of The Union address; ” At the rate of government spending, our children will inherit an 86% tax burden. That if we the people continue to send money to capital hill, the government would find things to spend the money on; whether we needed it or not.”
“Wake Up America! ” Our children are depending on us.

    Jeffrey K. Martin, Sr.

  88. Jolita Boudreaux says:

    NO GOVERNMENT HEALTHCARE!!!

  89. Bonnie S Talbot says:

    Senator Landrieu
We couont on you to represent your constituents in Louisiana and stand up to the Democratic push to continue to spend, spend. spend our children, grandchildren, and great grandcildren’s money. This is sending our economy into a tialspin. We need responsibility in government. Presidet Obama’s health care pan is a catastrophe and will ruin our health care. Ler’s over haul Medicare and Medicaid and save money there and allow citizens the freedo;m to choose their own health care. We are against this propositon as well as the Cap and Trade bill. Ploesae be faithful to your constituent and vote against these reckless bills.

  90. Gerald Merchant says:

    Senator Landrieu:

I am seventy-one years old and my wife and I are two of millions who will feel the brunt of this so called
INSURANCE REFORM BILL. Unless you and all your fellow senators are willing to be insured under this program I can not see any valve to me or others. The cost of this bill as well as the cap and trade bill will bankrupt our great country. Please vote against these bills.
If president OBAMA and the Senate really want to do something for America;Pass an energy bill that will
remove us from foreign oil dependence. Incase you are not aware Russia will soon be drilling in tne Gulf of Mexico south of Flordia. Need I say what this means? CUBA
    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

  91. Conrad McVea says:

Dear Senator Landreiu: I have corresponded with you on several occasions via email and written letters. I would very much appreciate it if you took Conrad Appels’s letter to heart. I realize how much pressure you are under to “toe the party line” and support the President’s agenda. I for one have never seen a man so out of touch with the people as is President Obama. I have never witnessed the use of such blatant power and to have the use of that power so ignored by the media. Who would have ever believed that a “snitch” line would be promoted by the White House as a way to intimidate, “we the People” from dissent against the President’s agenda. Has any president ever told the public , “we won the election, so just SHUT UP AND DO WHAT WE TELL YOU”. Once again Senator Landrieu I implore you to ignore the pressure from Rom Emmanuel and his cohorts and remember who elected you to the Senate. We in Louisiana are counting on you to do the right thing for America. I thank you in advance for using your common sense and withdrawing your support for “cap and trade” and the healthcare bill. C P McVea, Jr. DDS

  92. Roger Zajicek says:

    Conrad,
Well said. I will be forwarding all the comments and remarks to my house representative and both Nebraska Senators.

  93. Ellaine Wilson says:

I am delighted to voice my support of Conrad’s efforts and am in full support of the positions that he has expressed. It feels like we have stepped onto a very slippery slope and the implications for what lie at the bottom of this slide are extremely ominous. From what I understand of the health care proposal, physicians will loose much of their ability to provide the quality of care they are ethically bound to offer as it appears that there will be government dictates based upon statistics and charts. Health care decisions should be made between the physician and the patient not by some committee that has no knowledge of that particular patient. The good news is that I think this crisis has made everyone aware of the fact that there are problems with our health care system. A more appropriate solution is to allow the private industry the opportunity to orchestrate the changes rather than having the federal government take over. One of the first rules of health care is “do no harm”–I don’t think the Federal Government knows how to do that!

  94. Donald Olson says:

Having sworn to preserve, protect and defend the constitution, our President has proposed the most sweeping socialist (even Marxist) government takeovers of our basic and largest industries, the sacrificing of our freedoms, unreasonable taxation and confiscation, the control of the lifeblood of the nation – our energy systems, and trivializing and marginalization of senior citizens’ 40 or so years contributing to Social Security and Medicare just as these boomers are about enjoy the fruits of their labors. Two points of the many I could make: remember “power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” We are are handing over our freedoms to a government we already don’t trust. And number two, the only logical explanation I can fathom for the TRILLIONS of dollars of debt these drunken sailors are spending and not worrying about is that there are powerful forces in the back room which seek to collapse our capitalistic system so that they can “return the ownership of America back to those from whom it was stolen.” I anticipate a collapse so broad and deep we will have to abandon our currency and reform the nation around socialism and we will end up with our people so totally dependent on government, only force will keep them from violence.

  95. Edward C. Mathes says:

    Dear Senator Appel,
Very well written letter. I am sure that Senator Landrieu will take heed of your plea and represent those who have elected her to her office. We are truly at a crisis and must all do whatever is in our power to ensure that our government acts for the benefit of its citizenry at large. Keep up the good work.
    Edward C. Mathes

  96. Craig Poleman says:

    Senator Landrieu:
I have written your office on more than one occassion pleading for you to NOT vote for the Cap and Trade Bill.
In relation to the healthcare issues, come on, anyone in their right mind would not be for what is being proposed. You CANNOT possibly agree. Stand strong as a Louisianian, not as Democratic or Republican, and take a stand that you will not tolerate what is being proposed. That is a way to make a name for yourself and to guarantee continued re-election! We BEG and PLEAD with you! Thanks!

  97. Lynda Bradley says:

To all of our State of Louisiana and U. S. Congressman and Senators:
Because of the constitutional rights bestowed upon us, we the people elected representatives that the majority trusted to be our voice in our state and federal governments. Although there is much to say and many thoughts to be expressed in this crucial period in our country, it comes down to standing for what is right and what this country was founded on–Capitalism, NOT Socialism. I pray that your obligations as elected officials would mean more to you now than ever in you political careers.

  98. Ted Pearson says:

    Senator Appel,
Good letter. I too sent correspondence to Senator Landrieu about the middle of July. She did not say if she will vote against HR3200 as I requested, but she did advertise her co-sponsoring a Senate bill S.391. (A bill to provide affordable, guaranteed private health coverage that will make Americans healthier and can never be taken away.) It has been read twice on the floor and referred to the Committee on Finance. It has a companion Bill in the House, H.R.1391.

  99. Brian Ball says:

Concise and well written letter to no avail. Hate to burst your bubble, but they don’t care what we think.

  100. Deanna Pulver says:

Congress needs to vote against this healthcare reform bill. We do need something to cover those who can not afford healthcare, however it should not be a goverment one payer system.

  101. I will begin by thanking you Senator Appel for and out standing letter to Senator Landrieu concerning very important issues, not only for Louisiana but the country. I am 63 and bewildered by the Obama administration and the left wing Democrats blatant disregard to Americans voice. The socialist atmosphere form the White House is disturbing and a travesty to the constitution. Our fore-father give the people this document so that we might enjoy the freedom and prosperity but in the same document that warn us of government to large. I served my country and love my country but to day I am ashamed. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

  102. Ana Grace says:

“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them,” -Thomas Jefferson

  103. Troy J. Dennard says:

I also join in an uegent plea that these bills be turned back. I also want
health care reform but let’s start with Ins. companies and hospitals not
being allowed to make perfered statis and jacking up the price in order
to discount it down to what it needs to be to pay for it. medicare reform,
stop charging more for the elderly than a private pay insurance patient.
doing these and many other things could save enough money to buy private
insurance for the poor, if the had to compete nation wide for the business
    it would.

  104. J. Kane Mitchell says:

Unfortunately, these well intended and valid concerns for the future of our country and for the generations to come will fall upon deaf ears, ears that have been desensitized to the voters and constituents they are supposed to be listening to. Washington has forgotten that we are a government for the people and by the people. Good luck to us all and God Bless America!

  105. Donald says:

Pass this along to all your friends and send to your
    Representative and Senator.

  106. LEWIS AND Florence Naron says:

I strongly agree with senator’s position.

  107. Richard West says:

Great letter Senator Appel. The current administration has our country on a fast track to Socialism and
the Obamacare is just part of the overall plan. The average American citizen is beginning to wonder why the President and the congress of the most powerful nation in the world cannot create a plan to improve our health care system, a plan beneficial to ALL American citizens.
It’s because this administration’s plan is to create a class of people totally dependent on government which will allow them to remain in power indefinitely.

  108. donna p says:

Senator Landrieu and All elected officials,
Americans are now getting involved in their governments both local and federal at a astonishing rate. They are becoming more educated and collecting the facts. They no longer will let the pundints tell them their ideologies and accept it as fact. They have done their research and are armed with the facts. So be on notice that we the American Citizens will expect you to do as you were elected to do and that is to take our voices back to both our local and federal governments and vote the way the majority demands not the way the lobbyist or the big corps want. We did not put you in office to line your own pockets at the taxpayers expense or to insure that you get re-elected. If you wait until an election year to become aware of what the people want we will hold you accountable. Spending is out of control , the majority is being ignored and people are scared for the first time in their lives of losing their liberties. That is tyranny!! We are ask to SNITCH on our neighbors and radio talk shows are under grave pressure, especially conservative and Christian stations. I was a life long democrate until a year and a half ago and for all of the reasons listed above I became a proud INDEPENDENT. I believe in the first ammendment and will not quit speaking up. I am not a part of a mob, a nazi or UN-American. I do not want government run health care and am not for cap and trade. I want to have the freedom to choose my doctor and the care I receive. I don’t want cap and trade passed thus driving our companies over seas and along with them more American jobs. There are enough people suffering right now under the debt and unemployment without adding to it. I want you and other elected officials to put American Citizens first and quit worrying about if Illegal Immigrants have access to our school and health care system at our expense. Please vote NO to any public run health care as it will only open up the door for future abuse and a single payer system. Vote NO to cap and trade and help us get back on the path to the REPUBLIC we were given under our Constitution and Bill of Rights

  109. George Buisson says:

    Dear Senator:
When you vote, vote so that you enjoy or suffer the SAME consequences that we your constituents (your boss) will enjoy or suffer. You should be under the same health care restrictions or benefits (or program) that we are under. You should be limited by CAP and Trade legislation like we are. Nearly all, if not all, our Federal elected and appointed officials do NOT suffer what they legislate or inflict on us. You have and live by a different set of rules and benefits. You will not suffer the Universal Health Care Bill. You will not suffer the results of CAP and Trade. You do not suffer the down turns of the economy or lose your jobs like we do. You do not suffer the results of Section VIII or low & moderate income housing (whatever the pseudonym being used at this moment). You do not save and risk your money for a home to find that all of a sudden there are drugs, gangs, shootings, loud noise, etc. across the street and next door. Your children and grandchildren do not go to the public school system that was destroyed decades ago by Federal mandates. In other words, do not tell us, “Do as I say, not as I do.” NOTE: Orwellian pigs live in the farm house and sleep in the farmer’s bed and all the while declare themselves as equal to the other animals (just a little more equal).

  110. Kathy Lenard says:

    Dear Senator,
Thank you for your letter. We can’ afford CAP and trade and we surely don’t need the healthcare reform being pushed on us by the Obama government. Medicaid covers the poor, and Medicare covers the aged.
The economy will improve if Obama and his cronies will just leave it alone or better yet stop taxing it to death. Increased taxes and increased interference in our lives will not help. Also, as an RN, I do not want to be forced into assisting with abortions and suicide among the elderly. A society is judged on how it cares for the weakest among its citizens. I fear how we will be judged by the future generations. Again, thank you for helping us to let Mary Landrieu know how we feel, so she can vote the way that will help her constituents, the state of Louisiana, and our great country.

  111. Many W says:

While I don’t want the government involved in medical care at all, and am glad Senator Appel is willing to take a public position against it, I wonder what his position would have been had Mitt Romney (one of the contenders for the Republican nomination) won. While govenor of Massachusetts, he put the same kind of mandatory “insurance” requirment and public “option” in place that Obama is trying to ram down the whole country’s throat. It’s not enough to be against this kind of garbarge when the Democrats try to impliment it, people have to oppose it when the Republicans try to put it in place as well. Had Romney or McCain won we’d be getting the same thing only the GOP wouldn’t be opposing it. (Anybody remember Bush’s prescription drug entitlement?)

As for Mary Landrieu, I wouldn’t hold my breath. She is always for sale to the highest bidder, and always succedes in buying re-election by bribing the people of the state with a little of the money taken from them under threat of imprisionment (yes, that’s what taxes are). As a perfect example look at the fact that she refuses to co-sponsor a simple one-page bill, (S604) which all of our representatives and our other senator have co-sponsored, and which would require a real audit of the federal reserve. Her excuses are lame and vary from week to week, but the truth probably has more to do with the fact that er largest campaign contributor was the wall street investment bank, JP Morgan Chase which was bailed out by the federal reserve.

Mary Landrieu may vote against some forms of the medical power grab, but only if it gets her campaign donations or a deal for a cushy lobbying job like a previous senator from Lousiana.

  112. David B says:

Thanks for the well written letter.I totaly agree with the content–100 percent. This must stop.

  113. Toni Harper says:

Thank you for the excellent article

  114. Mr. & Mrs. M. Guillory says:

As small business owners, we agree whole heartedly with Senator Conrad.

  115. Love to see a real balance sheet audit after this bond sales transaction happens but we never will see it. Or it will be a bunch of bull — just like the artificially low unemployment numbers or CPI that dis-includes energy or food… Just more spin for the mindless masses, more frustration for the people in the know, and more money for the few manipulators who continue to wreck the system for their personal benefit. This is not about conspiracy. This is about money! I am tired of hearing about conspiracy theories when it all boils down to “MONEY! and the thieves who steel it” – use their bought media to spin it — use their political connections to protect their operation. That is all it is about — money — nothing more and nothing less.

  116. Thanks for the wonderful article, this must have consumed precious time to make with really good info.

  117. Great article, I especially like what you had to say in the last paragraph.
