Houma Today

The mood was generally good last week when Gov. Bobby Jindal made a stop in Houma to announce another $30 million in state money for local restoration projects planned for next year.
Not only did the money represent another important step for an area sorely lacking in hurricane protection and coastal restoration, but the governor’s presence itself is a positive sign that our plight is getting the urgent attention it demands…
It is heartening to see that Jindal has loudly adopted the cause of restoring and protecting our coast. His voice and others will be vital to the long-term goal of keeping this part of the nation livable.
Regardless of the partisan spats that can dominate talk of politics, issues such as our coast — to which Jindal has committed more than his predecessors — are the ones where consensus and progress are most likely.
