Business Officials Fear Legislation Will Kill Jobs, Not Create Them

“….’I don’t think there has been a time in more than 35 years doing this kind of work that we’ve had to work so hard on the federal level on issues important to the business community,’ [Dan] Juneau [President of Louisiana Association of Business and Industry] said.

‘These are the big issues in Congress affecting the business community. This isn’t about creating jobs, this is about killing jobs.’

‘It will really be a struggle for our small businesses,’ said Elton Pody, president of the Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce…

Juneau argued that cap and trade will result in job losses, particularly in Louisiana’s oil and gas industry, and high energy costs.

The proposed health-care legislation, he argued, will not result in the savings promised by supporters but will instead create more debt and higher health-care costs for individuals and businesses.

Card Check, Juneau said, will put pressure on employees to unionize.

Instead of large-scale programs such as these, he said, the government should be focused on things such as developing domestic energy sources, reducing its scope and reducing the deficit. …”
