“Central Louisiana residents should turn out in force March 17 to listen to Gov. Bobby Jindal’s pre-legislative session pitch. It promises to be tightly focused and highly energized — precisely what the state needs as it continues on a path of reinvention…

A crucial piece of context for Jindal’s speech is the work that has been done in advance of the legislative session by two cost-cutting commissions…

This was not an exercise in blind reductions. The challenge from Jindal to the commission members was to find efficiencies — everywhere. No sacred cows, no back-room deals. Everything needs to be on the table so the state can reduce its spending to eliminate a budget deficit and … establish a new baseline for fiscal thinking in a state that for too long has ‘let the good times roll’ with the whims of gas and oil prices. We cannot do that any longer, and Jindal has wisely made it a priority to force that issue…

Gov. Jindal is building on progress that started before he took office, and he is pushing to hard-wire the tools for positive change into state government. The more we help, the better.”
