You can tell a lot about a person by the friends they keep and by their priorities.

For the last 284 days Charlie Melancon has not had time to hold a town hall meeting to answer his constituent’s questions about his record of supporting Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House 3 times and supporting Barack Obama’s bailouts, stimulus and budget.

Last week we learned that Melancon not only doesn’t have time to listen to the people of Louisiana at home, but he doesn’t have time to serve their interests in Washington either.  Melancon has stepped down from the powerful House Budget Committee saying “physically it has become impossible.”

Apparently, Melancon just doesn’t have enough time to do his job.

So what’s been keeping Melancon so busy?

Late last month, when Melancon was unable to host a town hall meeting and concluding that he could no longer fit the Budget Committee into his schedule, Melancon was making new liberal friends at a fundraiser at New York City liberal Dennis Mehiel’s $30 million mansion.

Mehiel was the New York State chair for John Kerry’s presidential bid and he’s been a major contributor to many of Melancon’s other liberal friends in Washington like Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Charlie Rangel, Harry Reid, and the Kennedys.

Mehiel’s also been criticized for taking below market loans, many with no interest, a practice prohibited for companies whose stock is privately traded, and received $409,960 in undetailed “personal expenses” on top of the $1 million in salary in bonuses from SF Holdings.

Charlie Melancon doesn’t have time for his constituents in Louisiana or their needs in Washington, but he’s got plenty of time for rubbing elbows with New York’s liberal elite.

Melancon needs to get his priorities straight.

Sincerely,

Republican Party of Louisiana

P.S.: Louisiana doesn’t need another rubber stamp in the U.S. Senate for Barack Obama’s big government agenda.  Can you contribute $100, $50, or even just $10 today to take a stand against the Obama-Pelosi-Melancon team’s liberal schemes?
