“…Unlike the federal government, which has heard pleas from Louisianians for years about our vanishing coastline and the fragile marshes that spawn our seafood industry, Jindal acted. BP paid for the construction of $200 million in sand berms that have protected the coast.

The presidential commission criticized the berms, saying little oil washed onto them. Yet, no one really knows how much pollution was stopped.

Here’s what we know: Louisiana, once again, begged for help from the federal government. To take a quote directed at Jindal from the Obama report, the federal government’s response to our disasters has been ‘underwhelmingly effective.’

We know the sand berm project will assist in protecting our coastline. We also know the true scientific measurement of the protection that the berms have offered our fragile marshes and their breeding ground for the state’s seafood industry is yet to be determined.

And finally, we know the partisan politics of Washington will cast blame and doubt anywhere other than where it belongs.
