Rep. Roy Sees Handwriting on the Wall
Baton Rouge – Today, Republican Party of Louisiana Executive Director Jason Doré released the following statement on Democrat Representative Chris Roy’s decision not to seek re-election:
“Just one week after Governor Jindal announced his commitment to raise $2 million for the Victory Fund to elect more conservative reformers to the Louisiana Legislature, and just days after our State Party endorsed State House District 25 candidate Barett Byrd, the Democrat incumbent has dropped out of the race,” said Republican Party of Louisiana Executive Director Jason Doré. “This district has always been in the top tier of our targeted races and with a strong pro-jobs, pro-life, anti-tax conservative like Barett Byrd in the race, we knew this race had become a real opportunity to grow our ranks in the legislature. “
“It truly says something about the political environment headed into this fall’s elections, the strength of our State Party, and the quality of our endorsed candidate when an incumbent Democrat – and brother of the just re-elected mayor of Alexandria – chooses not to stand for re-election,” said Doré. “The handwriting was clearly on the wall and Rep. Roy knew what he was up against. His decision not to defend his seat has left a party devoid of both candidates and ideas at the statewide level with yet another hole to fill down the ballot.”
