FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 16th, 2010
CONTACT: Aaron Baer
225-389-4495

Yesterday, Charlie Melancon got caught skipping the most important oil spill hearing this Congress has had since the Deepwater Horizon spill began. Now 24 hours later, Melancon hasn’t even attempted to offer an excuse for his absence.

The hearing, titled “Drilling Down on America’s Energy Future: Safety, Security, and Clean Energy,” included officials from the five major oil companies. It offered a chance for lawmakers to question the executives on drilling safety, spill response, and Obama’s job-killing moratorium as well.

“Melancon had a real opportunity to stand up for Louisiana and hold BP accountable for the oil spill,” said Republican Party of Louisiana Communications Director Aaron Baer. “Melancon shirked his responsibilities to fight for Louisianians negatively impacted by the oil spill and Obama’s disastrous moratorium and has proven once again than when Louisiana needs him he’s nowhere to be found.”

Back in March, Melancon quit the House Budget Committee. In explaining his resignation, Melancon indicated it was so he could “focus his efforts” on the Energy and Commerce Committee who “deals with oil and gas industry issues important to Louisiana.” Yet, when that very committee held perhaps their most important hearing of this Congress, Melancon was noticeably absent.

“Melancon is developing quite the track record of showing up missing in action when Louisiana needs him most,” said Baer, “and this November Louisiana will give Melancon the permanent vacation he deserves.”

The American people have rejected the Democrats’ liberal agenda and now it’s time for Republicans to stand up and give Nancy Pelosi the pink slip.

Fellow Conservatives -

Republicans are in a strong position to take back the House majority this fall and finally deliver the most polarizing figure in American politics her pink slip. Under Nancy Pelosi’s control, the U.S. House of Representatives has looked more like a dictatorship than “the people’s house,” and I want conservative Republican members of Congress from Louisiana to be a part of ending her reign of power.

The elections this fall will be a referendum on the radical jobs killing liberal agenda pursued by Nancy Pelosi and her puppets in the House.

They passed a “stimulus” plan promising without it that 3 million jobs would be lost and unemployment would top 10 percent, but they passed it and 4 million jobs were lost and unemployment topped 10 percent. They passed an unconstitutional government takeover of our health care system that increases costs, cuts Medicare, and burdens the states with unfunded mandates. They bailed out the auto manufacturers and the bailouts for the financial industry continue to this day.

The American people have rejected their liberal agenda but the Democrat leadership has continued to ignore the phone calls, letters, and emails from the people they are supposed to represent. They have not listened – but they will hear us this November.

Today I’m asking you to take a moment to join our $20.10 for 2010 Club. Members contribute $20.10 every month and every dollar goes directly to electing Republican candidates for Congress who will give Nancy Pelosi the pink slip and put our country back on the right track. Will you join the Club today to show your support for a Republican majority in the House?

Together we can truly make a difference this November and we’re counting on the support of grassroots leaders like you to fuel our efforts to take back the House of Representatives!

Sincerely,

Roger Villere, Chairman
Republican Party of Louisiana

Sign our petition encouraging Louisiana's elected leaders in Washington to defeat Obama's plan for government-run health care and the Cap & Trade energy tax.

Commonsense Health Care Reform. No Cap & Trade

We the undersigned oppose efforts in Washington D.C. that will hurt Louisiana families and small businesses, and we encourage our Representatives and Senators to defeat these proposals and seek common sense solutions.

We support health care reform that controls costs, improves access, and preserves quality, but reject President Obama’s expensive and hastily crafted plan for government-run health care.

We believe health care decisions should be made by doctors and their patients-- not bureaucrats and politicians.

We understand the Congressional Budget Office’s report that Obama’s plan will cost at least a trillion dollars and still leave 36 million Americans without insurance.

We believe every human life has value and no American should have their tax dollars spent on procedures that violate their moral convictions.

We understand that Obama’s plan could force 119 million Americans out of their private plans and onto the government plan.

We believe we’re taxed enough already, and the new taxes proposed to finance this risky plan will stifle our economic growth.

Furthermore, we affirm the importance of responsibly and carefully administering our natural resources as well as the value of maintaining a clean and healthy environment for future generations and ourselves, but we reject the Cap and Trade energy tax.

We believe it is clear that a Cap and Trade scheme such as the current proposition in Congress is neither beneficial for the environment, nor conducive to honest relations between industry and government.

We believe Cap and Trade will force more industrial and manufacturing jobs overseas to nations that will pollute our air at even higher rates than current levels allowable in the United States.

We recognize the secondary economic consequences that will occur if this legislation is passed: the loss of energy sector jobs will cause the service industries supporting our communities to contract or disappear entirely.

For these reasons, we strongly encourage those who represent us in Washington to vote against government run health care and Cap and Trade.

The Republican National Committee released a new web video today on President Obama’s failed stimulus plan. The web video, entitled “Nothing,” can be viewed here.

RNC Chairman Michael Steele released the following statement:

“Vice President Biden warned us that there would be ‘waste’ in the stimulus bill. The Obama administration is devoting $18 million dollars to create a government website to show Americans just where their hard-earned tax dollars are being spent. This is unreal and outrageous. If the Obama administration is willing to devote $18 million in taxpayer dollars to a website, imagine what government-run health care will charge taxpayers for an MRI.”

Melancon is no blue dog-- he's Obama’s lap dog, and he’s too liberal for Louisiana.

The National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee (NRSC) released a web ad featuring Louisiana’s lone Democrat in the U.S House of Representatives on how his record doesn’t match his rhetoric.

As he travels across his district and presumably around the state, Melancon is sure to talk the talk of fiscal conservatism – but Louisiana voters know he hasn’t walked the walk.

Melancon voted for bailing out Wall Street and the automobile industry. He voted for the so-called “stimulus” plan that promised to hold unemployment below 8 percent and create 4 million jobs. Cue reality, where in June the unemployment rate hit 9.5 percent, with the economy already losing more than 3 million jobs this year. Moreover, Melancon voted for Obama’s bloated budget that has more than doubled the national debt.

Melancon is no blue dog– he’s Obama’s lap dog, and he’s too liberal for Louisiana.

Rep. Charlie Melancon recently discovered that his constituents in South Louisiana aren’t quite the same as his radical left friends that he pals around with in Washington DC. According to The Daily Iberian:

U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon “took a beating” from a crowd of fiery residents Thursday night as he defended his recent voting record on several bills in Congress including the economic stimulus package, corporate bailouts and the federal budget.

New Iberia resident Pat Angers said he voted for Melancon in 2005, but has since backed away from supporting him after his vote for the “porkulus” bill.

“I’m not voting for you next go around because you’re not supporting our needs,” Angers said.
