For the last 284 days Charlie Melancon has not had time to hold a town hall meeting to answer his constituent’s questions about his record of supporting Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House 3 times and supporting Barack Obama's bailouts, stimulus and budget.

You can tell a lot about a person by the friends they keep and by their priorities.

For the last 284 days Charlie Melancon has not had time to hold a town hall meeting to answer his constituent’s questions about his record of supporting Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House 3 times and supporting Barack Obama’s bailouts, stimulus and budget.

Last week we learned that Melancon not only doesn’t have time to listen to the people of Louisiana at home, but he doesn’t have time to serve their interests in Washington either. Melancon has stepped down from the powerful House Budget Committee saying “physically it has become impossible.”

Apparently, Melancon just doesn’t have enough time to do his job.

So what’s been keeping Melancon so busy?

Late last month, when Melancon was unable to host a town hall meeting and concluding that he could no longer fit the Budget Committee into his schedule, Melancon was making new liberal friends at a fundraiser at New York City liberal Dennis Mehiel’s $30 million mansion.

Mehiel was the New York State chair for John Kerry’s presidential bid and he’s been a major contributor to many of Melancon’s other liberal friends in Washington like Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Charlie Rangel, Harry Reid, and the Kennedys.

Mehiel’s also been criticized for taking below market loans, many with no interest, a practice prohibited for companies whose stock is privately traded, and received $409,960 in undetailed “personal expenses” on top of the $1 million in salary in bonuses from SF Holdings.

Charlie Melancon doesn’t have time for his constituents in Louisiana or their needs in Washington, but he’s got plenty of time for rubbing elbows with New York’s liberal elite.

Melancon needs to get his priorities straight.

Sincerely,

Republican Party of Louisiana

P.S.: Louisiana doesn’t need another rubber stamp in the U.S. Senate for Barack Obama’s big government agenda. Can you contribute $100, $50, or even just $10 today to take a stand against the Obama-Pelosi-Melancon team’s liberal schemes?

MSNBC NEWS LIVE
October 12, 2009

Contessa Brewer: “…With me now, Congressman Steve Scalise. Congressman, good to see you. The President making two big events today – when he goes to New Orleans on Thursday, rather. Some of the criticism that I have read, say the agenda is too light. What do you make of what he has on the itinerary?”

Representative Steve Scalise (R-LA): “Well a lot of us here in New Orleans want the President to actually see some of the issues that we’re dealing with on the ground, not necessarily some little photo op, some kind of town hall meeting where you’re talking to people. I mean that’s nice to know he’s going to be talking to people but until you actually see the issues on the ground and go to the place, the breach where the levees actually broke and see those issues, that people are dealing with, that we need help with from the President, those are the things that we really want the president to come down and do, not something that he did as a candidate for office but actually now as President where he can impact the decisions that need to be made. We want him to come on the ground and spend some real quality time so that he can help us with the recovery issues we are still grappling with.”

Brewer: “Congressman, the White House says that in the five visits President Obama has already made in times past, both as a senator and as a presidential candidate, that he has seen a lot of what New Orleans is challenged by. He’s seen a lot of the obstacles but that particularly he’s looking forward to the town hall because it is an opportunity for the people who are living New Orleans every day to express to them what is of utmost concern.”

Rep. Scalise: “Yeah, and I think that what people in New Orleans would tell the President is you’re not going to be able to see some of those issues sitting in a school gym. You’re going to actually have to go out onto the ground, walk the streets, walk those areas, where we’re still trying and struggling to get the help from the federal government that was promised. And in fact, President Obama, when he was a candidate for office, promised some very specific things, like category 5 flood protection, like coastal restoration. We still don’t have those things yet. And so, maybe the president needs to see a little bit more on the ground what those issues are so that we can get those real commitments from him, now that he’s president and he’s in a position to help us with these issues specifically.” …

Human Events writer Jordan Vivian describes Rep. Charles Boustany's response to President Obama's health care plan as "sharp-edged" and gives "relevant opposition to Obama's health care plan."

Human Events
by Jordan Vivian
September 10, 2009

“As most were focused on Obama’s 29th speech on health care reform last night, Louisiana Representative Charles Boustany delivered a sharp-edged response, expressing disappointment with the president and laying the groundwork for a renewed and relevant opposition to Obama’s health care plan…

In a short speech designed to establish credibility for Republican alternatives to health care reform, the former surgeon addressed the holes in the Democratic plan, employing fiery language in defense of a fiscally responsible, ‘common-sense’ alternative…

Boustany spoke of his 20 years of experience as a surgeon, and the need he saw firsthand for ‘lower[ing] the cost of health care for all Americans’ with ‘reforms that our nation can afford.’ …

Remarking on the president’s inclusion of the much-discussed ‘public option’ in his plan, Boustany expressed disappointment that the president chose not to compromise on the issue, an item that lead negotiator Max Baucus, D-Mont., has said will not pass the Senate. ‘We can do better,’ Boustany said….
