Louisiana has seen tremendous growth in the number of Republican Elected Officials and in the quantity & quality of Republican affiliated organizations. Below is a closer look at our key officials and organizations.
Senator David Vitter
David Vitter was elected to the United States Senate in 2004, the first Republican from Louisiana to serve in that capacity since Reconstruction. Before his election to the Senate, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives representing Louisiana’s first district. He served in this capacity following his membership in the Louisiana House of Representatives during the nineties. Senator Vitter has dual undergraduate degrees from Harvard University and Oxford as well as a Juris Doctorate from Tulane University in New Orleans. He is married with four children.

Congressman Steve Scalise
Steve Scalise was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in May 2008 to fill the vacancy left when Bobby Jindal assumed the governorship and was re-elected to a full two-year term in November 2008. In Washington, Scalise serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee. He is married with two young children.
Congressman Joseph Cao
Joseph Cao is the first Vietnamese-American to serve in the United States Congress, and currently is U.S. Representative of Louisiana’s Second District. His diverse academic background includes a degree in physics from Baylor University, a Master’s degree in Philosophy from Fordham, a Juris Doctorate from Tulane and a six-year stint as a Jesuit seminarian. He is married to his wife Kate with whom he has two daughters.
Congressman John Flemming
Dr. John Fleming, a family physician and small business owner, served as a Medical Officer in the United States Navy, Deacon at First Baptist Church in Minden before his election to Congress in 2008. In Washington, Rep. Fleming serves the Fourth District of Louisiana and is a member of the Armed Services and Natural Resources Committees. He has been married for over 29 years to his wife Cindy, and has four adult children.
Congressman Rodney Alexander
Rodney Alexander, native of Bienville Parish, started his career in public service when he joined the Air Force Reserve in 1965. From there, he joined the Police Jury and then went on to run and win a seat in the Louisiana House of Representatives. After a notable career in the state legislature and U.S. Congress, Alexander joined the Republican Party in 2004 and has enjoyed broad support from the Fifth District. Alexander and his wife Nancy reside in Quitman, LA. They have three children and seven grandchildren.
Congressman Bill Cassidy
Dr. Bill Cassidy, a liver specialist and graduate from Louisiana State University, was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2008 to represent the people of the Sixth District. Prior to his current role in Washington, Cassidy represented the 16th District in the Louisiana Senate. He is a member of the Agriculture, Education and Labor, and Natural Resources Committee. He is married with three children.
Congressman Charles Boustany
Dr. Charles Boustany, a heart surgeon, has served in the United States House of Representatives since 2005, offering residents of the 7th district a “prescription for prosperity.” In Congress, Rep. Boustany is the ranking member of the subcommittee of Oversight in the House Ways and Means Committee. He is married with two children.
