Statewide Officials
Governor Bobby Jindal
Bobby Jindal, a native of Baton Rouge, was sworn in as Governor in January 2008. His October 2007 victory marked the first time a non-incumbent candidate for governor was elected without a runoff under Louisiana’s current election system. His prior service includes secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, executive director of the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare, president of the University of Louisiana System, Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and U.S. Congressman. Governor Jindal is married with three young children.

Secretary of State Jay Dardenne
Jay Dardenne was sworn in as Secretary of State in November of 2006 and re-elected in 2007. Dardenne received a legal degree from Louisiana State University and served one term on the East Baton Rouge Metropolitan Council and fifteen years as Louisiana State Senator before assuming his current position as Secretary of State. In 2003, Dardenne was named “National Republican Legislator of the Year.” He is married with two children.
Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon
Jim Donelon was elected Commissioner of the Louisiana Department of Insurance in 2007. A graduate of the University of New Orleans and Loyola School of Law, Donelon served as State Judge Advocate for the Louisiana Army National Guard during which time he achieved the rank of Colonel and received the Legion of Merit medal. Jim and his wife Merilynn have four daughters and five grandchildren.
Treasurer John Kennedy
John Kennedy was re-elected to his third term as Louisiana State Treasurer in 2007 having previously served as Secretary of the Department of Revenue, Special Counsel to Governor Buddy Roemer and Secretary of Governor Roemer’s Cabinet. Kennedy is an adjunct professor at LSU Law School and an occasional substitute teacher in the East Baton Rouge public school system. He resides with his wife Becky and son Preston in Madisonville, LA.
Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Mike Strain
Mike Strain, a veterinarian and rancher before serving two terms in the Louisiana House of Representatives was the first Republican ever elected Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry. In the Legislature, Strain served on the Agriculture Committee and chaired the Legislative Rural Caucus. He is married with two children.
